AUTOMATIC ENROLLMENT IN UNL STUDENT INSURANCE PLAN
All international students with F1 and J1 visas are automatically enrolled in the UNL student insurance plan-- StudentBlue Student Health Insurance. Under StudentBlue, most services at the University Health Center are 100% covered, including medical procedures, visits with medical specialists, annual exams, laboratory tests, x-rays, physical therapy, and counseling and psychological services. For dental services, two check-ups are 100% covered and other dental services are partially covered. At the University Health Center Pharmacy, most prescriptions are partially covered.
A Quantiferon test for tuberculosis (required of all international students) and an MMR titer test (if you have not had two measles immunizations) are 100% covered.
HOW YOU PAY FOR THIS COVERAGEYou are automatically charged for coverage under the UNL student insurance plan. This charge will appear on your Student Account bill each semester.
Using Your Insurance
You will be sent an insurance card from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, the company that provides UNL student insurance. You must bring this card with you when you visit the University Health Center, including when you get prescriptions filled.
IF YOU DO NOT NEED THIS COVERAGEYou can waive coverage of the UNL student insurance plan, if you already have comparable coverage.
Detailed Information about Insurance Waivers & Comparable Coverage
If you have comparable coverage, you must complete the online waiver and bring all insurance documents with you to your first appointment. All documents must be in English. You must waive coverage each semester using the online waiver, on or before the 14th day of classes. WAIVER APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE 14th DAY OF CLASS.
