60-day Grace Period

Congratulations on completing your academic program! Please note that as an international student, currently in the United States, in the F-1 status, you must do one of the following no later than 60 days after your last date of enrollment:


Transition to a new program at UNL
- Go to https://iglobal.nebraska.edu and sign in with your NUID.
- On the left side under Admissions, select New International Graduate Student I-20/DS-2019 Request.
- Complete the Request form. This form requires an upload for your financial documentation, either (A) an assistantship offer letter that meets the minimum funding amount or (B) a completed Financial Resource Certification (FRC) with supporting documents. See Request form and FRC for specific dollar amounts and other details.


Transfer to a new program at another college or university in the United States
- Submit an F-1 SEVIS Transfer Request
         Attach copy of admission letter from new school.


Apply for Optional Practical Training
- Watch the required videos and take the OPT quiz.
- Complete your OPT application and submit it to USCIS.
- USCIS must receive the application no later than the last day of your 60-day grace period.


Apply to USCIS for a change of status to another immigration classification
- Meet with an immigration attorney for assistance.
       Timing issues may involve the filing of a bridge application that an attorney will need to assist with.


Leave the United States (either to home country or to another country)
