Graduate Student Welcome Social - Friday, January 24th

6:00 pm - Nebraska Union, Platte River Room

We are excited to invite all graduate students to join us for an evening of sandwich, trivia, games, and conversation. In addition, there will be many giveaways, such as bookstore gift cards!
*Sponsored by Graduate Student Assembly, International Student & Scholar Office, and Graduate Studies.

Rwandan Night - Saturday, February 1st

The Rwandan Student Association has organized a night of food, culture, and dance! This event is free for all students. Learn more below!

Ice Skating at the Railyard Ice Rink - Thursday, February 6th 

If you are a new incoming international student, please join us for a welcome ice skating event in downtown Lincoln. If you would like to walk over as a group, pelase meet ISSO staff at the Nebraska Union in the Crib at 3:15 pm and we will walk to the Ice Rink together as a group. Questions? Lunch and Learn Series, February 13th

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

This Lunch and Learn will focus on the language of American dating, the social norms associated with relationships, and the important resources on campus to help students navigate dating and relationships while at UNL.

H1-B Workshop: Back to Basics, February 19th

8:30 am - 10:00 am

This workshop is for faculty and staff to learn the ins and outs of the H1-B process for hiring university employees. We will cover the processes from beginning to end, including updates and changes that have occured.

Are you interested in learning more about U.S. and Nebraska State Laws? Please join us for an informative presentation to learn about common laws.

Hosting Exchange Visitors Workshop, March 18th

This workshop is for faculty and staff that are interested in hosting exchange visitors. We will cover the requirements for hosts, the process to invite a visitor, and other updates.

Permanent Residence: The Possibilities and Processes, April 8th

International students, scholars and families, please join us for our welcome kick-off event to meet students, our staff and the global peer mentors. We will have free ice cream, lawn games, and music outside in the Sepn Hall Green Space.

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium Trip - October 6th, 2019

Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo is consistently ranked as one of the world's top five zoos! Please join us for a full-day visit, where we will provide transportation to and from the zoo, and passes for the day.

*Registration has closed due to full capacity, please complete the waitlist form and ISSO staff will inform you of any openings. Please note that we will offer another zoo trip in Spring 2020!

Lunch and Learn Series

Series 2 - Monday, October 28

Please join us for a workshop series focused on communication and networking with peers, professors, and staff. You will learn about common U.S. and Nebraska phrases in addition to resources on campus that can help you as you navigate your fall semester. Location: Platte River, Nebraska Union

Roca Berry Farms Trip with Global Peer Mentors - October 22nd, 2019

Celebrate Halloween with ISSO at Roca Berry Farms where we will pick pumpkins in the pumpkin patch, explore corn mazes, and enjoy a campfire with your Global Peer Mentors and ISSO team.

International Night at the Women's Basketball Game, Wednesday, November 14th 

Come cheer on your fellow Huskers as they play against Morgan State. We will have staff and Global Peer Mentors meet before the game to walk over to Pinnacle Bank Arena together. We will all sit together as a group. International students will have the chance to participate in the half time show! Entry is free for students with NU ID cards. International Education Week - November 18 - 22nd

International Education Week (IEW), November 18-22, 2019, is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.

All Week: International flags will be displayed in the Meier Commons on City Campus to showcase where our international students are from. Stop by and see where our students are from!

Dinner in a Nebraska Home - November 2019

International students will have the opportunity to experience a dinner in a U.S. home and connect with faculty and staff outside the classroom. Students are assigned to faculty/staff hosts in groups of two or three based on availability, dietary restrictions, access to transportation and fears/allergies related to pets. Students and faculty/staff will meet for the first time at a reception in mid November, and will have until December 8th to have the dinner. Sign up here

International Education Week (IEW) Global Tea Kick-off - Monday, November 18th, 2019

Stop by to celebrate the start of IEW with the International Student and Scholar Office, Student Involvement, and the Kawasaki Reading Room with live music and to experience teas from Japan, Iraq, India, China, and more!

Fulbright Breakfast - Tuesday, November, 19th

8:30 am - 10:00 am

This event is for students who are currently on Fulbright here at UNL or have been in the past, as well as their faculty advisors. This event is by invitation only. If you believe you should have received an invitation but did not, please contact nbaker6@unl.edu

Global Huskers Festival - Tuesday, November 19th

6:00 - 9:00 pm, Memorial Stadium Gate 7

This multicultural festival provides attendees the chance to explore the world through informational booths that will have food, cultural décor, art, and more, each hosted by UNL students from those cultures! There will also be live performances including spoken word artist Lemon Andersen, and an international fashion show to explore cultures through clothing.

International Visitor and Scholar Reception - November 21, 2019

4:00 - 6:00 PM, College of Business

This event is by invitation only and will recognize current exchange visitors, sponsored international faculty, and their host departments. The reception provides attendees an opportunity for professional networking and socializing.

Black Wednesday Shopping trip to Nebraska Crossing Outlet Mall - Wednesday, November 27th

10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Come shop with ISSO and UNL Housing the day before Thanksgiving Day! This is a great way to experience American holiday shopping where items are significantly discounted. A maximum of 100 students are able to sign up and registration will close on November 16th, with in person registrations until 11/20. Snacks and Signatures with ISSO - December 2019

Cultural Adjustment Talk: Study Abroad/International Student Support Group

Every Monday - beginning 9/9/19 from 3:00 - 4:00 pm in Selleck Executive Dining Room

*There will not be a meeting on 10/21

This is a free drop-in support group that provides students an opportunity to hear how other students experience culture adjustment in and out of the U.S. Students will gain knowledge of living in a new country and practice English in a safe, non-judgmental einvironment. Stress Management Consulation for International Students

Every 4th Tuesday of the month - beginning on 8/27/19 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm in Seaton Hall 316
