Huskers partner with teens for immigration project
Huskers and students from North Star High School are hosting a free community event 6:30 to 8 p.m. April 18 at the Midwest African Museum of Art, Culture and Resource Center. The event will feature a discussion on immigration and refugee resettlement in Lincoln.
Tippens explores well-being among African refugees
Tippens is investigating how Congolese refugees, particularly elders, are faring in Tanzania’s urban environments. With funding from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Office of Research and Economic Development, Tippens interviewed 50 Congolese refugees living in urban informal settlements in Dar es Salaam. She asked about their stressors, coping strategies and social supports. Coping strategies and preferred social supports differed by age.
