Welcome to Programs in English as a Second Language (PIESL). PIESL supports non-native speakers of English by providing them with a wide range of language and cultural learning opportunities. Through innovative programs and curricula taught by expert faculty, students achieve a level of proficiency that enables them to reach their personal, academic, and professional goals. PIESL offers three regular programs for both degree seeking and non-degree seeking students and will design and implement custom programs for clients upon request.

  • The Intensive English Program - The Intensive English Program (IEP) is designed for students who wish to communicate effectively in English for a variety of personal and academic purposes.
  • The Credit English for Academic Purposes Program - The Credit English for Academic Purposes Program (Credit EAP) is for advanced, conditionally admitted students who are transitioning from full-time intensive English study to full-time academic study.
  • Credit English as a Second Language courses - Credit English as a Second Language courses (Credit ESL) are for graduate and undergraduate students at UNL who have met the minimum language requirements for full admission but still need additional support in certain skill areas in order to excel in their academic studies.
  • Customized Programs - Special programs can be designed to accommodate the learning needs and schedules of almost any group.
