Landscape Architecture professor recognized in Forbes China 30 under 30

Growing up, Yujia Wang saw growth in the blink of an eye. Cityscapes congested with dull buildings suddenly blossomed with color as blooming gardens, manicured parks and cascading fountains emerged. He saw how urban designs transformed lives, so he decided to draw the future of the field. Now, he’s getting recognized for his work.

Wang, professor of practice of the Landscape Architecture Program, was one of 300 individuals who made it into Forbes China 30 Under 30, a competitive list of young people in various fields across the nation.

Damien Niyonshuti, an integrated science major from Kigali, Rwanda hopes to use his leadership and involvement experiences at Nebraska to benefit others. At Nebraska, Niyonshuti has found himself surrounded by ambition and innovation, propelling him to make a difference through his leadership and involvement on campus and setting his sights on future impact in his home country.

Osiri helps students think globally, act locally

Kalu Osiri went from a chemistry lab to global education.

His multicultural upbringing in Benin, West Africa, laid the foundation for his current work as director of the International Business Program in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s College of Business.

As an associate professor of practice in management, Osiri works with Huskers to cultivate their global mindset, gain leadership and emotional intelligence and work through the ethical questions of international business.

Manda hopes health-based study can make lasting impact in Zambia, beyond

Memory Manda is focusing her Nebraska-based research on Kaposi sarcoma, a skin cancer that is the second-most common cancer in her home country Zambia. The sociology graduate student from Lusaka, Zambia came to Nebraska as a recipient of the National Institutes of Health Fogarty Grant for HIV research training. Her goal is to build upon her research successes here in Nebraska and make a lasting impact in her home country.

Fourteen University of Nebraska–Lincoln students or recent graduates have been named semifinalists for the 2021-22 Fulbright U.S. Student Program by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. The final selection will be later this spring.

Nebraska unveils first institutional global strategy

Building on the bold vision outlined in the N2025 Strategic Plan, “Forward Together: A Global Strategy for UNL” serves as a comprehensive roadmap to strengthen and expand global education, engagement and impact at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in the years to come.

Introduced by Chancellor Ronnie Green during the State of Our University address on Feb. 15, Forward Together was created through an intensive, year-long process that gathered feedback from across campus. The effort was led by a Global Strategy Committee of faculty and staff from colleges and key service units.

It can be hard being away from home sometimes and not being able to see family in person.

However, Husker freshman pole vaulter Monica Aldrighetti has formed a second family and a second home in Lincoln, Nebraska. She said she has taken everything in stride and is excited to see what’s to come.
