Weekly Chinese Hour connects UNL students with China’s culture, history
Every Tuesday from Jan. 28 to April 21, topics like the vibrant Peking opera and tea culture are brought closer to home during Chinese Hour. From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Chinese Hour, a weekly walk-in event, takes place in Oldfather Hall, Room 1126. Fulbright scholar and Chinese foreign language teaching assistant Yi Yu coordinates and hosts the event, aiming to create a well-rounded learning experience for all students.
Global Studies major allows Molnar to explore deep questions and gain hands-on experience
As a child of a counselor and a therapist, global studies major Chloe Molnar has always been interested in learning about the backgrounds of different people and how that shapes opinions and personality. For Molnar, the major allows her to explore deep questions about difference in perspectives or cultural implications, as well as gain hands-on experience in learning about the world.
Looking back on a decade of momentum
On Jan. 1, 2010, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln was still a part of the Big 12 athletic conference and had no permanent home for its research endeavors. UNL hosts third alumni reception abroad in conjunction with Governor’s trade missions
On November 11, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln hosted its third international alumni reception in Berlin, Germany in conjunction with Governor Ricketts’ trade missions. The University also hosted receptions in Vietnam and Japan in the fall of 2019.
Nebraska and Pakistan exchange comes full circle
The impact of Nebraska faculty and staff can be felt around the world, even thousands of miles away. This October and November, Nebraska played host to 25 scholars from Pakistan through the U.S. Department of State’s English Works! Program.

Global studies graduate named Rangel fellow
Lee-Ann Sims, a December 2018 graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's College of Arts and Sciences, has been selected as a 2020 scholar for the Charles B. Rangel Graduate Fellowship program. The Lincoln native and former global studies major is the second-ever Husker student to earn a Rangel fellowship, which seeks to mentor and support outstanding students to bring a more diverse perspective into the crafting and enacting of U.S. foreign policy.

Elizabeth Spiller, a higher education leader and scholar who led the successful reorganization and financial restructuring of the University of California, Davis’ College of Letters and Science, has been named the next executive vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Hasan's new book examines egalitarianism of the Qur'an
Abla Hasan, associate professor of Arabic language and culture, is the author of new religion book “Decoding the Egalitarianism of the Qur’an: Retrieving Lost Voices on Gender.” The book, which was published on Nov. 15 by Lexington Books, calls for a questioning of the interpretive credibility of many inherited Qur’anic commentaries.
