Nebraska turfgrass tech reaches customers worldwide

Nebraska’s Bill Kreuser has launched a startup company, TurfGrade, to make turfgrass management simpler and more sustainable. Kreuser, assistant professor of agronomy and horticulture, has developed a software application that provides guidance for applying fertilizer and plant growth regulators. The company has nearly 6,000 customers globally — with 1,000 weekly users — spread across six continents and almost all 50 U.S. states.

Barker named inaugural vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion

Marco Barker is the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s inaugural vice chancellor for diversity and inclusion. He will also hold an associate professor of practice appointment in educational administration. He will join the campus on April 1.

Marketa Podebradska, originally from Prague, Czech Republic, is a student in the School of Natural Resources with a specialization in climatology. During her undergraduate degree, Marketa attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln while on the Robitschek Scholarship and discovered a new culture and new friends that she fell in love with. After winning the Dean's award for her undergraduate thesis, she completed a summer job and returned to UNL as a graduate student with funding for her degree.

International Education Week Flag Hunt highlights campus international community

During International Education Week from November 12-16, the International Student & Scholar Office (ISSO) hosted it's first annual Flag Hunt. Nebraska team discovers 'extraordinary' Roman mosaic in Turkey

A rare, second-century figural floor mosaic has been unearthed in the ancient Roman city of Antiochia ad Cragum on the southern coast of Turkey. The newly discovered mosaic features unusual composition and risqué subject matter. Michael Hoff, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln art history professor who has led excavations at Antiochia ad Cragum since 2005, also reported that the 2018 excavation uncovered a hoard of more than 3,000 coins, dating to the early 17th century.

Fine Arts alumna wins major international printmaking prize

Emma Nishimura (M.F.A. 2013) was awarded the Queen Sonja Print Award on November 8, 2018 at a ceremony at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. The award, created and presented by Her Majest Queen Sonja of Norway, focuses on international graphic art in all its expressions and techniques. With a $50,000 prize and week-long residency in Sweden attached, the award is one of the most prestigious prizes for printmaking.
